Alonzo was a second cousin of John Thomas Stancil, both descended from John Stansel Sr. through his sons John and Samuel. He is in the photo from the 1902 Stancil Reunion.
He was the son of Reddick and Polly Creech Stancil, and grandson of John and Polly Worley Stansell.
Family Lineage
Reddick's father, John, was an older brother of Tom’s father Samuel. John Stancil Jr. had six known children: Patsy, Jonathan, John, William, Winchester, and Samuel.

Legacy and Life
Alonzo was a teacher at the Woodard School House, where he taught children of John Thomas Stancil—including Tommy. While teaching, he often stayed with the Stancil family.
Reddick Stancil, Alonzo's father, was born May 22, 1840, in North Carolina. He married Polly Creech on Jan. 31, 1867. They had:
- Lafayette E. (1867–1931)
- Annie L. (1868–1918)
- Sarah Katherine (1871–1958)
- Alonzo Christopher (1874–1943)
Polly passed away on Nov. 11, 1876, at just 28 years old. She is buried at Redick Stancil Cemetery in Pine Level.
Reddick later married Polly's sister, Eliza Ann Creech. They had:
- Mary (1878–1964)
- Marietta (1879–1964)
- Amma C. (1883–1969)
- John Harvey (1885–1955)
- Florence (1890–1924)
- Hubert Douglas (1891–1930)
Eliza Ann's first husband was Reddick’s brother, John Christopher Stancil. They had:
- Charley L. (1867–1894)
- George Walter Stancil
John Christopher died on August 4, 1874.
