Teresa Diane Alford, born on January 15, 1960, in Nash County, North Carolina, was the daughter of Billy Wilbert Liles and Gladys Narron. She had one sibling, David Wilbert Liles, born April 24, 1957.
Diane's life was marked by her loving family and diverse passions. She first married Michael "Max" Edwin Johnson on September 5, 1980, and they had one son, Kevin Michael Johnson, in 1982, who later served in the Navy. After their divorce on January 22, 1986, Diane married Harold "Hal" Richard McConnell on May 31, 1986, in Rocky Mount, NC. They shared 38 years of marriage and had a son, Jason Scott McConnell, in 1987.
Beyond her family, Diane's love extended to the natural world and animals. She was described as a "sassy, confident, adventurous, God loving woman." Her deep connection to the outdoors was evident in her passions: she loved gardening, filling every available space with beautiful flowers, sunflowers, and vegetables. Animals, her "silent companions," filled her days, from "paws to claws, wings to hoofs." Her dream of having horses came true with Bayaref, Patriot, and Abby, leading her to enjoy trail blazing, endurance riding, and camping under star-studded skies. She also cherished her pets—Molly, Abby, and her "chickabees." In addition to her outdoor pursuits, she enjoyed collecting owls and chickens, as well as jewelry, shoes, and clothes.
Diane faced the loss of close family members throughout her life. Her mother, Gladys, passed away on October 26, 2008, followed by her stepfather, Billy Alford, on April 12, 2009. Her brother, David, died on September 18, 2016.
Diane Alford McConnell passed away at the age of 64 on February 20, 2024.
