James Perry Hales Jr., oldest son of James Perry Sr. and Delphia Pearl Hill Hales, was born Jan. 5, 1917, in Johnston County, North Carolina.

James Perry was called J.P. by his brothers and sisters including Fletcher Bythe Hales (1918-2006), Leon Daughtridge Hales (1920-1984), Earnest Harold Hales (1921-1987), Dorothy Clell Hales Furr (1923-2003), Winfred Hill Hales (1925-1960), Floyd Everette Hales Corbett (1927-1980), Vara Pearl Hales Johnson (1930-2011), Betty Lois Hales Pender (1934-2017), Duke Nelson Hales (1936-1985) and Janice Marie Hales Batten.

He was once the superintendent of the Fort Bragg Post Office, Scout Master, member of Phoenix Lodge and deacon at Pleasant Grove Church.

He married Lois Estelle Darden in September 1935 in South Carolina. Lois was born Dec. 26, 1914, in Black Creek in Wilson, NC. Her nickname for James Perry was "Penny." Lois was salutatorian of her Black Creek High School in Wilson.

They had James Perry Hales III, Nancy Pearl Hales and William Darden Hales.

Lois died Apri 24, 1993, in Fayetteville, NC. She is buried in Lafayette Memorial Park, Fayetteville, Cumberland, NC.

James Perry Hales died on April 16, 1994, in Cumberland, NC. Funeral was at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home. He was buried with Masonic Rites in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, NC.
