Paul Douglas Creech lived a life defined by family connections, military service, dedicated work, and a profound love for music. As the youngest of his siblings, he carved out a life that touched those around him with his gentle spirit and talents.
Paul Douglas Creech was born on December 12, 1921, in Selma, North Carolina. He was the youngest of the five children of Manley and Lillian Stancil Creech. Paul grew up alongside his four older siblings: William Leslie Creech, Creola Beatrice Creech, Joseph Worth Creech, and Joseph Manley Creech Jr. As an adult, Paul was described as being approximately 6'1" tall and weighing about 200 pounds.
Paul's early education included completing grammar school. On September 15, 1942, he joined the Army, reporting to Fort Bragg for duty.
After his military service, Paul established a career as a dedicated bookkeeper for the Colonial Grocery Store, where he worked for many years.
Beyond his professional life, Paul had a deep passion for music. For many years, he led his own band, where he played the piano. His niece, Marie, even had the opportunity to sing with his band, creating cherished family memories. Paul's love for music was so significant that he asked his niece Geri to keep his beautiful piano for him, which she continues to treasure as a wonderful reminder of her uncle.
Paul was a member of the Alliance Christian Church, reflecting his commitment to his faith and community.
Paul Douglas Creech passed away on July 7, 1997, at the age of 75, in a Norfolk, Virginia, hospital. He was laid to rest beside his beloved mother and father in Selma Memorial Gardens, located in Selma, Johnston County, North Carolina. Paul is remembered for his musical talents, his quiet dedication, and his enduring family bonds.
