Randy Nelson Pope

Early Life and Family

Randy Nelson Pope, affectionately known as "Newt," was born on April 10, 1956, in Johnston County, North Carolina. He was the second son of Raymond Eugene "Gene" and Gracie Boykin Pope. Randy shared an especially close bond with his older brother, Kim, whom he considered his best friend.

Career and Community Impact

An exceptional athlete from a young age, Randy found a way to share his talents and passion for sports with his community in Pine Level. He became deeply involved with the local Parks & Recreation program, where he coached countless children. A dedicated mentor, he instilled in every child the belief that they could achieve anything they set their mind to. For 32 years, Randy was also a devoted employee at Talecris (now Grifols), where he was known for his strong work ethic and his love for his job and coworkers.

Personal Life and Legacy

Randy's greatest love was his high school sweetheart, Teresa "Terry" Ann Koger. They married on May 2, 1975, and shared a life filled with laughter and companionship, including their beloved dog, Nate.

He was a proud and loving father to his two daughters, Kelly Pope Aycock (and her husband, Chuck) and Amanda Pope Murray (and her husband, Brian). They were his pride and joy, and he was known as the best father a girl could ask for. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren, Camden and Carter Aycock, and Tucker Lane Murray.

Randy passed away at the age of 55 on April 3, 2012, in Pine Level, North Carolina. He was laid to rest in the Price Cemetery.
