Wallace became an expert in air conditioning. He was in construction of public buildings. Later he was a bridge carpenter for 18 years and also worked for Bruce Narron in building houses.

He married Louise Adelle Strickland on Oct. 6, 1982, in Nash County, North Carolina.

He died at 56 on Jan. 18, 1997, in Middlesex. He is buried in Bailey Cemetery in Nash County.
