Marceline Edwards

Marceline Edwards, the daughter of Joseph and Lucinda Edwards, was born in January 1879 in North Carolina.

Marceline lived and worked for a time with Josiah and Minnie Stancil. While with Josiah and Minnie, she had two children. They were not Josiah's.

Marceline had a son Mifford born in 1898. Mifford became the bound child of Jessie A. Hales. He married Ila Massengill on Dec. 8, 1919, in Boon Hill Township of Johnston County, North Carolina. Milford Hales and his family moved in with Alvin. Milford was a tenant farmer at Alvin's for two years. Milford later became a preacher. He died March 21, 1976, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

A daughter Lena, born in 1899. Lena was adopted by Oscar's great Uncle James Henry Stancil.

Marceline had a child Lola Hales in 1907. By the time Lola married Moses Batten on Jan. 24, 1923, in Johnston County, Marceline had passed away.

Marceline and Jessie also had Nina Hales in 1913 in North Carolina. She married Wm Avery Crocker on Nov. 23, 1927, in Smithfield, North Carolina.

Marceline and Jessie had another child, Vernon Worth Hales, on Nov. 10, 1915, in Johnston County. Vernon died March 30, 1969, in Halifax, North Carolina.

Jessie was one of Alvin's Pa's half brothers.

Marceline is buried in the Gillis Hales Family Cemetery off Shoeheel Road in Johnston County.
