James Clarence Hill was born March 23, 1900.
He married Ella Renfrow Aug. 29, 1920, and they had four children, all girls.
Clarence was shot and killed Dec. 17, 1971, when his Kenly grocery store was robbed. Two Kenly teens admitted to robbing and killing Clarence.
He was buried in the Fred Hill Cemetery in Kenly, North Carolina.
His wife, Ella, who was born Oct. 1, 1902, died Jan. 16, 1991, in Wilson. She was also buried in the Fred Hill Cemetery.
A teenager was sentenced to death for the 1971 murder of James Clarence Hill.
