Ethel Gray Hill Hayes, a cherished member of her family and community, was born on April 28, 1929, in Johnston County, North Carolina. She was the oldest child of Edgar and Mary "Randy" Jo Edwards Hill.
Ethel grew up alongside her siblings: Joseph "Lynwood" Hill Sr. (1934-2013), Kenneth Ray Hill (1931-2000), Janie Cleo Hill Joyner, and Jackie Earl Hill Sr. (1944-2019).
She married Thomas Ray "Pee Wee" Hayes, who was born on February 19, 1928. Pee Wee bravely served in the Army during the Korean War. Together, Ethel and Pee Wee built their family, welcoming two children: Ricky Thomas Hayes and Teresa Ann Hayes. They also shared the joy of one grandchild, Amanda Dixon.
Professionally, Ethel was the dedicated owner and operator of Hayes Custom Drapery until her retirement.
Thomas Ray "Pee Wee" Hayes passed away on September 9, 2000, in Wilson, North Carolina. He was laid to rest in Evergreen Memorial Park in Wilson, NC.
