Sadie Stancil was born July 12, 1913, and died April 17, 1954. She married Robert Lee Gallyon on June 22, 1940.

Sadie Stancil, daughter of Walter Greene and Dillie Ann Renfrow Stancil, was born July 12, 1913, in Johnston, North Carolina.

Sadie was 16 when she moved to Durham and lived with her Uncle Leonard during the 1930 Census. She worked in a hosiery factory.

Sadie married Robert Gallyon on June 22, 1940, in Durham, North Carolina. They did not have any children.

Sadie developed brain cancer. During one treatment, a substance was sprayed on her brain.

This innovative treatment was meant to help her but instead it caused her to lose the ability to speak.

Sadie was hospitalized for a long time, and her family was told she would not live long.

Sadie died April 17, 1954, in Durham, North Carolina.

Her obituary in the Durham Morning Herald on April 18, 1954, stated:

Mrs. Sadie Stancil Gallyon, 40, of 1009 East Main Street, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in a Durham hospital after a long illness.

She was a native of Johnston County, the daughter of the late Walter and Dillie Ann Renfrow Stancil. She had lived in Durham for the past 25 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the W.M.U. of the church.

Sadie is buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, North Carolina.

Robert Gallyon died on March 1, 1980, in Durham, North Carolina. He is buried next to Sadie.
