Walter Thomas "Tommy" Stancil, the youngest of seven children from Lonnie and Susy Renfrow Stancil, was born April 23, 1934, in Wilson County, North Carolina.

His siblings are Mildred Ruth, born November 25, 1917; Doris Louise, born and died in 1919; Lonnie Pearl, born September 23, 1920; Doris Pearl, born July 29, 1923; Roy Alfred, born May 12, 1925; and Patty Eloise Stancil, born January 21, 1928.

Tommy was six years younger than Patty and 17 years younger than Mildred, the oldest.

Tommy married Janice Lee Hurley on June 10, 1955, in Wilson, North Carolina.

Tommy died Nov. 25, 1985, at his home in Wilson, North Carolina. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetery.
