Tim's early life was marked by his father Bill's career as a Naval Officer, which led to several family moves. He grew up with an older sister, Claire Suzanne, and an older brother, David henry_stancil.html The family eventually settled in Wake County, North Carolina, after Bill retired from the Navy in 1980.
Tim graduated from middle school in Cary and from Apex High School in Apex, North Carolina, in 1985.
He then began his college journey at UNC Greensboro in 1985 before transferring to NC State University, following in the footsteps of his uncle Jim Batts and cousin Jamey.
During his time at NC State, Tim met Leanne Stepanovich, whom he married on October 22, 1994, in Fairfax, Virginia.
They welcomed two children, Eva Nichole in 1998 and William Nicholas "Nick" in 2005. Sadly, Tim's mother, Brenda, passed away from breast cancer on July 13, 1989, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
In 1990, Tim graduated with a degree in communications. His professional career began at Xerox as a sales representative, and he later held positions with IKON Office Solutions and Verizon FIOS, where he was highly regarded for his sales acumen, quick learning ability, and positive influence on colleagues. He later became the Director of Sales for Aligned Technology Solutions, LLC. His friends and co-workers often spoke of his ready smile, graciousness, generosity, dedication, and intellect.
Tim was a devoted father whose life revolved around his children, Eva and Nick. He took immense pride in their accomplishments, including Nick's involvement in Boy Scouts and his selection for the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed camping trips with Nick and cherished family moments.
A passionate sports fan, Tim supported both the NCSU Wolf Pack and the UNC Tar Heels. He also followed the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Raiders. A memorable moment for him was celebrating the UNC Tar Heels' NCAA Title win in 2005 with friends at The Starboard in Dewey Beach, Delaware.
In October 2016, Tim began medical treatment for cancer at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. During this time, he stayed with his uncle and aunt, Jim and Kathy Batts, in Wake Forest, N.C. He made trips home to Bristol, Virginia, and his family, including Leanne, Eva, and Nick, visited him regularly, bringing him much joy. He celebrated Nick's 12th birthday at home on February 13, 2017, and had a final visit from Leanne, Eva, and Nick on March 25.
Tim passed away at the age of 50 on March 26, 2017, in Durham, North Carolina.
Leanne has continued to bring her children to the Stancil Family Reunion.
When Tim, David, Claire, Renee, and I were young, we spent holidays together at Granny Bea's house, we especially enjoyed, when cousins were able to sit together in her parlor room and share our dinner together, where we would laugh and share our food. When Tim first moved to Raleigh from Norfolk, I carried Tim around town in my yellow Chevy Nova. We enjoyed hanging out at the Kildare swim club. Tim shared his love for music, including Dillon Fence concerts, football, and his Eva and Nick. We shared our alma mater NCSU and enjoyment of watching athletic events. I'm going to miss you buddy!
