Rosa Imogene Hill, the oldest daughter of Wilbert and Mayzell Boykin Hill, was born on August 9, 1936, in Johnston County, North Carolina.
She grew up as part of a large family with her eight siblings: Marvelene, William Janell, Kay, Sandra, Elizabeth, Linda Lorraine, Sharon Teresa, and Debra Ann Hill.
Benny Ivan Murphy was born just two months later, on October 12, 1936, in Alamance County, North Carolina, to Frank and Annie Murphy. He was one of eight children, with siblings Mildred Riley, Maydell Murphy, Ruby Peace, Juanita Howard, Edwin Murphy, Pete Murphy, and Ted Murphy. Benny graduated from Mebane High School and furthered his education at Burlington Business College.

Benny proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957, and continued his service in the National Guard from 1958 to 1962.
He was a dedicated member of the VFW. Following his military service, Benny embarked on a distinguished career at Holt Manufacturing, where he was employed for 24 years.
Rosa Imogene Hill and Benny Murphy were united in marriage in 1958. Together, they built a loving family, raising three children: Tim Murphy, Benny "Snook" Murphy, and Pamela Foster.
Over time, their family grew to include seven grandchildren: Christy Lutterloh, Alan Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Kimberly Marrero, Corey Murphy, Aaron Grizzle, and Breanna Grizzle. Imogene also embraced her role as step-grandmother to Brandon Hirt, Whitney Brown, Dustin Hirt, Tanner Hirt, and Michael Honeycutt.
Both Imogene and Benny shared a deep love for their family, cherishing time spent together.
Outside of their family life, Imogene and Benny found joy in shared hobbies. Both were avid enthusiasts of fishing and enjoyed trips to the beach. Benny was also a member of Mebane Presbyterian Church.
Rosa Imogene Hill Murphy passed away at the age of 83 on March 16, 2020, in Mebane, North Carolina. She was laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane.
Benny Ivan Murphy became a widower and continued to live until his passing on October 28, 2022. He was buried beside his beloved Imogene in Oakwood Cemetery, with military honors in recognition of his service.
Their lives together represent a legacy of family devotion, shared interests, and enduring love.
