Ruth Elder Pittman Langston, the fourth oldest and third daughter born to Fletcher and Gertrude Stancil Pittman, entered the world on June 10, 1928, in Kenly, North Carolina.

She grew up with a large family, including her siblings: Gertie Mae Pittman Buchanan, Irene Pittman Wallace, Ann Pittman Viverette, Jennifer Pittman Collins, Bill Pittman, Tom Pittman, H.A. Pittman, and George "Mac" Pittman.

On March 8, 1947, Ruth married James Rudolph Langston in Dillon, South Carolina. James Rudolph Langston was born on February 7, 1925, in Lucama, North Carolina.

Ruth and James made their home on the Peninsula, where she resided for 50 years, establishing deep roots in the community.

Their union brought two children into the world: Holly Ruth Langston and James Rudolph Langston Jr.

Ruth and James were grandparents to five grandchildren: R. Scott Cooke, Drew Langston Cooke, Lorin McLean Cooke, Micah Denise Langston, and James Rudolph "Trey" Langston III.

Her faith was a central part of Ruth's life. She was a devoted member of Parkview Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as the Sunday school secretary for both teenagers and senior citizens for an impressive 40 years.

Ruth Pittman Langston passed away at the age of 69 on July 19, 1997, in Newport News, Virginia. She is laid to rest in Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News. Her husband later joined her in eternal rest on December 2, 2001, also in Newport News, and is buried beside her in Peninsula Memorial Park.
