Walter Mark Six, son of Gilda Renfrow Six and the late Walter Ellsworth Six and brother of Walter Matthew Six and Walter Derek Six, died at 51 on March 9, 2007, at Wake Medical Center in North Carolina. Mark was born Feb. 4, 1956, in Tampa, Fla. He is buried in the Springhill Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Lucama, North Carolina.
Thomas V. Callinan Jr., husband of Ruthann Bowes Callinan and father of Michelle Leigh Ericson, died at 66 on April 17, 2007, at Salem Hospital, following an illness of several months. He was born Sept. 5, 1940, in Boston. He is the son of the late Thomas V. and Dorothy (Ames) Callinan Sr. He is the grandfather of Sean M. Cioto Jr., Jordan and Joshua Canada and Haley Ericson. He attended St. Charles School, Keith Academy, and earned a bachelor's degree as well as his law degree from St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. Thomas maintained a private law practice for many years and, following his retirement, worked for Checker Cab Co. A boating enthusiast, he was a member of the Lynn Yacht Club and enjoyed tuna fishing during the summers at Menemsha on Martha's Vineyard.
Donald Glenn "Bill" Rose Sr., husband of Delia "Lois" Bailey Rose and father of Donald Glenn Rose Jr. and Tonya Rose Crocker, died at 73 on May 12, 2007, at his home of Steel Bridge Road. He was born July 15, 1933, in Johnston County, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Marvin L. and Bessie Barnes Rose and father of the late Ronald Lynn Rose. He was a staff sergeant in the Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He is buried in the Bailey Family Cemetery on Old Bailey Road near Middlesex.
Kenneth Harold Stancil, son of Eula Mae Stancil and Herbert Nevell Pittman, died at 67 on May 14, 2007, at Wilson Medical Center in Wilson, North Carolina. He was born Dec. 24, 1939, in Kenly, North Carolina.
Doris Pearl Stancil Laughinghouse, mother of Susan Laughinghouse Kall, Ward "Jack" Jackson Laughinghouse Jr. and Stephen Laughinghouse, died at 83 on May 17, 2007, at home in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was born July 29, 1923. She is the daughter of the late Lonnie and Susan Renfrow Stancil and wife of the late Ward Jackson Laughinghouse. She is grandmother of Kim Leese, Greg Williams and Jason Laughinghouse; and great-grandmother of Dylan, Christopher, Nathan and Patrick Leese. She is buried in New Bern Memorial Cemetery in Craven, North Carolina.
Erik Martin Stancil, partner of Berri Ward, father of John Harry Stancil, stepfather of Linda Ward and son of Jeffrey and Mary McDonnell Stancil and brother of Kiersten Stancil Jackson and husband Rodney, and Courtney Stancil, died at 36, on May 17, 2007, in San Francisco, California. He was born Aug. 16, 1970. He is the grandson of Beverly Eggerling Stancil and the late Harry Jr. and great-grandson of the late Harry and Laura Sayre Stancil.
Robert “Robin” Lance Murph, father of Heather Murph and Jessica Murph, son of Marvelene Hill Carico and husband, Robert, and son of Woodrow Franklin Murph, brother of Angie Murph Mosely, Frankie Murph, Kip Murph and wife, Wanda, and Michael Carico, died at 47 on June 26, 2007, in Wilson, North Carolina. He was born May 14, 1960. He is buried in the Bailey City Cemetery.
Milton Johnathon Boyette Sr., husband of Elizabeth "Liz" Hill Boyette, father of Violet Starling, and husband Ricky; Teresa Carroll, and husband Frank Pierce; and Milton J. Boyette Jr., and wife Vickie; and brother of Penny McFatter and Emma Jean Adams, died at 67 on June 29, 2007, in Eureka, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Matthew and Edna Daughtry Boyette and brother of the late Ila Mae Ferrell and Willie Boyette of Goldsboro. He has five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a former insulation installer for different companies.
Phillip Anthony Stancil, husband of Sandra Chandler Stancil, father of Laramie Stancil Werner, and husband Brian, and Meghan Stancil, son of James "Jimmy" Harding Stancil, and brother of James Harding Stancil II, David Michael Stancil and Danny Stuart Stancil, died on July 5, 2007. He was born April 2, 1951.
Ward Jackson Laughinghouse Jr., brother of Steve Laughinghouse and Susan Laughinghouse Kall, died at 57 on July 18, 2007, at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born Dec. 22, 1949. He is the son of the late Ward and Doris Stancil Laughinghouse. He served in the Air Force as a sergeant, including some time in Vietnam. He is buried in the New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
Carletta Stancil Sawyer, mother of Henry Claude Sawyer Jr. and wife, Jeanne, John Michael Sawyer and wife, Beverly Jo, died at 90 on Aug. 3, 2007, at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, North Carolina. She was born Aug. 9, 1916, in Kenly, North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late John Archer and Pinetta Edwards Stancil and wife to the late Henry Claude Sawyer Sr. She is the grandmother of John Michael Sawyer Jr. and wife, Tonya; Shannon Sawyer Andrews and husband, Greg, and great-grandmother of Aubrey, Samuel, Josiah, Christopher, Rivers and Dallas, and step-grandmother of Jeremy and Kari and step great-grandmother of Dylan and Grace. Carletta is the last living sibling of a family of 11 children. Carletta worked as payroll administrator for the Durham Public School System for many years. She is buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, North Carolina.
Laurine Gabrielle Noelani Saffery Stancil, daughter of Eugene and Corrine Saffery Sr., wife of Douglas Stancil Jr., mother of Brandon Saffery-Stancil and Randol and sister of Eugene Jr., Deke Saffer and Cherie Saffery-Akeo, died at 43 on Oct. 7, 2007, in Pa'ia, Maui. She was born Feb. 26, 1964, in Wailuku, Maui. She has one grandson. She served as T.M.C. Construction bookkeeper.
James Earl Godwin, son of Mavis Hill Godwin and the late Willie Narvin Godwin, husband of Joan Bass Godwin, father of Kelly Johnson and husband Brian; Christopher Godwin; and brother of Dianne Strickland and husband Clay; Willie Eugene Godwin and Charles Randall Godwin and wife Patsy, died at 61 on Nov. 16, 2007. He was born March 16, 1946. He is the son of the late Willie Narvin. Jim was a graduate of Coopers High School and East Carolina University and served in the United States Navy. He worked at Wildwood Lamp Company. He is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park in Wilson, North Carolina.
Thomas Ruffin Stancil, 92, of Grayling passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007. Thomas was born in Smithfield, N.C., on Nov. 3, 1915. He was the son of the late Walter and Dilly Ann (Renfrow) Stancil.
He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II.
He married the former Georgianna Olson in 1941 in Florida, she preceded him in death in 1985.
Thomas is survived by sons Arnold Thomas Stancil of Grayling, George (Marilyn) Stancil of Grayling, Phillip (Grace) Stancil of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife Georgianna, a daughter Ann Marie Stancil, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation was held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007. Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayling.
Interment was held in Spring 2008 at Elmwood Cemetery Grayling, Mich. Condolences may be sent to www.sorensonlockwood.com.
Cecil Warren Stancil, son of Glenn Warren Stancil and the late Erma, husband of Joan Woodard Stancil; father of Ginger Stancil Williams, Rodney Warren Stancil; brother of Wayne Stancil, died at 64 on Dec. 11, 2007. Cecil was born June 4, 1943, in Johnston County, North Carolina. He is the grandfather of Garrett, Tyler, Chase and Victoria. He was a devoted member of Oak Grove Church where he served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and chairman of building committee. He also was a Mason, past Master, completed York Rites, a Shriner and worked with the Shriner Mini-rigs. His civic duties included president of Glendale PTA and chairman of Glendale Recreation Committee and past chairman of Glendale Advisory Council. As a salesman with O'Neal Steel, he received top salesman award for many years and Presidential Sales Award. He is buried in the Oak Grove Church Cemetery with military rites.
Danny McNeil "Neil" Johnson, father of Brittany Michelle Johnson and ex-husband of Teresa Victoria Boyette, died at 41 on Dec. 26, 2007, at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, North Carolina. He is the son of Wanda B. Cameron and husband, Don; and Danny Johnson and wife, Janice. He was born Feb. 1, 1966, in Greene County, N.C. He was a volunteer fireman, an EMT and a lieutenant with the N.C. Department of Corrections' Greene Correctional Center in Maury. (Arnettie/Wilbert/Marvelene)
