Atlas Glenn “A.G.” Willoughby Jr., husband of Betty Jo Pender Willoughby, father of Rhonda Evans Mangin and brother of Roy Willoughby, Margie Taylor, Shirley Hargis and Rose Willoughby, died at 59 on Jan. 8, 2020. He is the son of Atlas Glenn and Ella Campbell Willoughby. He was born Aug. 14, 1960, in Wilson, North Carolina. He is the grandfather of Lizzie Mangin and Matthew Mangin. Donald Glenn Campbell, husband of Christel Moll Campbell, father of Daniel Campbell, grandfather of Rachel Nicole Campbell and brother of JoAnn Brinson, died at 82 on Feb. 20, 2020, in Springfield, Virginia. He is the son of Glenn and Mozelle Stancil Campbell. He was born April 8, 1937, in Smithfield, North Carolina. Don served in the National Guard from 1953 to 1956 and was drafted into the Army in 1957 and was assigned to Heidelberg, Germany, where he met Christel. He was buried at Fairfax Memorial Park. Don is the grandson of Josiah.
Norma Renee Eason Warren, wife of David Franklin Warren Jr. and mother of Lauren, died at 49 on Feb. 20, 2020. She is the daughter of Brenda Fay Wiggins Merry and the late Lelon Sr. She was born March 8, 1970. (Myrtle)
Peggy Jean Petway Hill, mother of Lynn Hill Eldridge and Jay Hill and sister of Joyce P. Ferrell, died at 85 on Feb. 28, 2020, in Cedar Point, North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Millard and Beatrice Jones Petway and wife of the late Edward Warren Hill Sr. She was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Wilson, North Carolina. She is the grandmother of Kaitlyn Eldridge, Caleb, Warren and Stephen Hill; great-grandmother of Katie, Cheyenne and Eddie Hill. She was preceded in death by son Eddie Hill and granddaughter Beth Hill. She is buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson. (Resley/Jack)
Rosa Imogene Hill Murphy, wife of Benny Murphy and mother of Tim, Benny and Pamela Foster, died at 83 on March 16, 2020. She is the daughter of Wilbert and Mayzell Boykin Hill and sister of the late Marvelene Carico and grandmother of the late Aaron Grizzle. She was born Aug. 9, 1936, in Johnston County, North Carolina. She is grandmother of Christy, Alan, Matthew, Kimberly, Corey, Breanna, Brandson, Whitney, Dustin, Tanner and Michael. She was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. She is the granddaughter of Arnettie.
Billy Royce Pittman, father of Tim Pittman and Gail Pittman and brother of Irene Pittman Wallace and Anne Pittman Viverette, died at 89 on March 28, 2020, in Garner, North Carolina. He is the son of Fletcher and Gertrude Stancil Pittman and husband of the late Jackie Underwood Pittman. He was born May 10, 1930, in Johnston County, North Carolina. He is the grandfather of Alexandra and Jordan. Billy served in the Air Force during the Korean War and served with security police at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico. He was buried at Montlawn Memorial Park in Garner.
Barbara Marie Bass Hill, mother of Joe Hill and grandmother of Tucker Hill, died at 82 on March 28, 2020, in Wilson, North Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Frank and Frances Bass and wife of the late Lynwood Hill. She was born June 11, 1937. (Resley)
Shelley Burton Fox, former wife of Richard Garland Jones, mother of Ryahn Jones and Jahn-Mychal Fox and grandmother of Elina Fox, died at 71 on May 11, 2020, in Virginia Beach. She was born March 31, 1949, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She is the daughter of the late Shelton and Frances Burton. She was a teacher at Star of the School in Virginia Beach for many years. James “Jim” Pennington Wood, husband of the late Gloria Maxine Stancil Wood, died at 93 on June 7, 2020, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Ray City, Georgia. He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens South in Davie, Florida. Gloria is the daughter of Leumos and granddaughter of Josiah.
William “Bill” Joseph Creech Sr., husband of Giovannia, father of Kimberly and William Jr. and brother of Kenneth, Keith and Linda Gail, died at 78 on June 8, 2020, in Durham, North Carolina. He is the son of the late William Leslie Creech and Pauline Barbour Creech. Bill was also predeceased by his infant daughter, Lisa Jo Creech on April 16, 1964. He was born Aug. 26, 1941. He is the grandfather of Christian, Elisabeth and great-grandfather of William IV and Jackson. Bill served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965 and retired from IBM after 30 years. Lee Baldree, husband of Nancy Cayton Baldree and father of Alyson Baldree, Laura Lee Garrett, Emily Baldree Smith and Winifred Boswell, died at 77 on June 14, 2020, in Black Creek, North Carolina. He was the son of Arnold T. and Sarah Pearson Baldree. He was born Jan. 31, 1943, in Black Creek, North Carolina. He is the grandfather of Emma, William, Olivia, Anna, Jonathan, Wyatt, Kenan and Hadley. He joined the Marine Corps in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart. (Bessie/Emma)

He is the son of the late Willie and Beulah Mercer and grandfather of the late Tyler. He was born March 22, 1932. He is the grandfather of Candice, Wendy, Emily, Robert, William and Kaylin. Ernest Franklin Hartley, father of Kevin, father-in-law of Brenda and former husband of Marsha, died at 65 on July 24, 2020, in Kenly, North Carolina. He is the son of the late William Thomas Hartley and Susan Jones Hartley. He was born Sept. 29, 1954, in Wilson County, North Carolina. He is the grandfather of Kassi. Braxton Hill, father of Karen Hill Collins and Kevin Hill and brother of Phillip Ray Hill, Billy Wayne Hill and Jeri Lewis, died at 87 on Aug. 6, 2020, in Wilson, North Carolina. He was husband of the late P. Jay Narron Hill and son of Tonie and Ludie Edwards Hill. He was born March 5, 1933, in Johnston County. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and worked at Watson Electrical Construction Company in Wilson. He was buried at New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church in Kenly. (Tonie)
William Jay Weaver, ex-husband of Pamela Ruth Janiuk and father of Matthew Brady Weaver, died at 88 on Aug. 25, 2020, in Palm Coast, Florida. He is the son of William and Lyda Galbraith Weaver. Paul Edwin Stancil, father of Paul II and Debra, died at 96 on Aug. 29, 2020, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is the son of Leumos and Ethel Harris Stancil and husband of the late Winifred Stopford Stancil. He was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Kenly, North Carolina. He is the grandfather of Dawn, Christy, Tiffany, Julie and Paul III. Paul was a World War II veteran and served in the Merchant Marines. Paul loved golf. He is buried at Chattanooga Memorial Park.
Shirley Stancil Cockrell, mother of Rhonda Shiryl Cockrell Rhodes and sister of Alice Stancil Price, died at 84 on Sept. 11, 2020, in Kenly, North Carolina. She was wife of the late Ronald Cockrell and daughter of the late Stephen and Ronia Hill Stancil. She was born Aug. 2, 1936, in Johnston County.
Milton Vann Price, father of Ryan Price, Stewart Price and brother of Lucille Price and Gail Stancil, died at 66, on Sept. 11, 2020, in Kenly, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Fletcher and Ora Stancil Price. He was born Jan. 10, 1954, in Wilson County. He was a supervisor for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Myrtle Alene Isenhour Estes, mother of Larry and Ronnie, mother-in-law of Mitzie and sister of Rebecca, died at 86 on Sept. 23, 2020, in Clayton, North Carolina. She is the daughter of Arthur and Bertha Crocker Hill and wife of the late Ralph Isenhour and wife of the late Amos Estes and sister of the late Shirley and Mildred. She is the grandmother of Leslie, Amanda, Leah, Randall, Madison and Summer. She was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Johnston County, North Carolina. She was buried at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. Charles “Chuck” Edward Stancil, husband of Janet Lazzarotti Stancil; father of Bret and Scott; grandfather of Madison, Jacob, Nicole and Sawyer; and brother of Gay and Jeffrey, died at 70 on Sept. 27, 2020, in California. He is the son of Harry Lester and Beverly Ann Eggerling Stancil. He was born Aug. 31, 1950, in Auburn, California. Chuck and his brother Jeffrey ran a printing business in the Bay area for 40 years. Billy Ray Moran, husband of Linda Creech Moran and father of Heather and father-in-law of Troy, died at 78 on Oct. 4, 2020, at Duke University Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Leonard Moran and Ada Salmon Moran. He was born May 9, 1942, in Virginia. He is the grandfather of Porter and Laine. He served in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964 and retired from IBM after 45 years. He was a passionate North Carolina State fan. (Lillian)
Melody Sue Creech, daughter of Keith and Inez Creech and sister of Paulett and Sabrina, died at 54 on Oct. 22, 2020, in Conway, South Carolina. She was born July 27, 1966, in Tampa, Florida. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Toccoa Falls College, Georgia, in 1998. She taught first grade, special needs students, in Gastonia, North Carolina. Shortly after, she began employment at the Sun-News working as a circulation administrative assistant. In her last position, she was employed with the Practice Management Group working as a credentialing coordinator and manager. (Lillian)
Deborah Lee “Debbie” Seitz Anderson, mother of Nerisa Anderson Stancil and mother in-law of James Christopher Stancil, died at 60 on Nov. 6, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Jerome Virgil Seitz and Marylou Ann Brester Seitz. She was born June 6, 1960, in Missoula, Montana. She is the grandmother of Brantley, Christian and Ellary Stancil. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eldon Anderson. She had worked with the law firm of Kirby and Holt and was Financial Aid Administrator at Louisburg College. Folden Wilford “F.W.” Lee Jr., husband of Rose Narron and father of Folden Lee III and Blake Lee, died at 73 on Nov. 25, 2020, in Princeton, North Carolina. He is the son of the late Folden and Ruby Thrower Lee. He was born April 15, 1947, in Clayton. He was drafted into the Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was a founding member of the Me Fine Foundation remembering Folden Lee IV. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Clayton. He was buried at Hephzibah Baptist Church in Princeton. Command Sgt. Major Dennis Brian Berry, husband of Robin Elaine Stancil Berry and father of Connor and Collin Berry, died at 60 on Dec. 10, 2020, in Louisiana. He was born May 20, 1960. He is the son of Daniel and Carol Berry. Brian married Robin on Jan. 25, 1992. Brian, retired Army Special Forces Regiment Command Sergeant Major, completed his military career in 2014 after more than 27 years of service in Afghanistan, Iraq and Africa. During his career, he served in the infantry filling positions of radio operator, team leader, squad leader and platoon sergeant. After retiring, he owned and operated Spartan Defensive Concepts. Dennis Wayne Edwards, husband of Eloise Bailey Edwards and father of Christy Edwards Gallway, Dana Edwards Boyette and Robin Edwards Mitchell, died at 73 on Dec. 16, 2020, in Kenly, North Carolina. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He is the son of Irene Edwards Wall and the late Herschel D. Edwards. He was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Johnston County. He married Eloise on July 26, 1966. Scott Blane Kalani Stancil, son of Luana Costa, father of Kolby Stancil and Stephanie Stancil and brother of Danielle, Guy, Mark, Charmaine, Mike Dane, Tammy, Luana Estocado, Leititia Meheula and Michael Sean, died at 63 on Dec. 23, 2020, in Fairfield, California. He is the son of the late Ted Stancil. He was born June 20, 1957, in Honolulu. He is the grandfather of Sky and Wesson. He moved to Fairfield when he was 12. Scott worked for the Solano County Irrigation District while he lived in Vacaville, California. Scott’s ashes will be returned to the island of O’ahu to be laid at rest at Kailua Beach. Robert Nelson Furr Sr., husband of Sharon, father of Tonya and Robert Jr., brother of Brenda and the late Jerry and brother-in-law of Rita, died at 73 on Dec. 24, 2020, in Hampton, Virginia. He is the son of the late Nelson and Dorothy Hales Furr. He was born Jan. 7, 1947, in Newport News, Virginia. He is the grandfather of Aaron, Benjamin, Hailey, Bryan, Amaya and Mateo. His ashes were spread on the Russian River in Alaska and in the Florida Keys. (Delphia)
Esther Marie Godwin Narron, mother of Cynthia Marie Narron Philemon and Delbridge Narron and sister of Billy Godwin, died at 86 on Dec. 24, 2020, at home in Indian Trail, North Carolina. She is the daughter of James and Bessie Stancil Godwin. She was born May 7, 1934. She is the grandmother of Avery Philemon. Esther, valedictorian of her high school class at Black Creek School, graduated from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte in 1967 and established the Esther Godwin Narron Endowed Scholarship in 2005.
Charles Cecil Shaw Jr., husband of Deborah Campbell Shaw; father of Charles, James, Kevin, Michael and Christopher; and grandfather of Reagan, McKinlee, Preslee, Nathan and John Stephen, died at 74 on Dec. 27, 2020, in Smithfield, Virginia. He is the son of the late Charles Cecil Shaw Sr. and Velma Hunter Shaw. He was born July 25, 1946. Cecil served in the Army in Vietnam. After that, he worked at Newport News Shipbuilding.
