Mark Christopher House of the George Branch, the youngest son of the late Reba Stancil House and Lawrence Elmo House, died Feb. 8, 2024, after a lengthy illness at Alpine Health & Rehabilitation of Asheboro, North Carolina, at age 63.
Mark was born Feb. 8, 2024, in Greensboro, North Carolina. He attended Grimsley High School, GTCC, and was a 1989 graduate of Guilford College with a major in history.
Mark is survived by three older siblings: Larry Stancil House (Janey); Jane House Burton (Frank); and Bradley Steven House; his loving nieces: Lauren House Zeldin; Amy House Thurston; Melissa House Rhoads (Jonathan); Jennifer House Bobalik (Paul); and two nephews: Bryan Lawrence Burton (Emma); and Christopher J. Burton (Neil) as well as one great niece, four great nephews, and 13 first cousins.
A celebration of life service for Mark's family is planned for later this year.

Hale Ralph Stancil of the George Branch, the oldest son of George Ralph Stancil and Ethel Hales Stancil, and husband of Rebecca "Becky" Warner Stancil, died March 21, 2024, in Ocala, Florida, at the age of 78.
Hale was born to Ralph and Ethel on Jan. 3, 1946, in Ocala, Florida. Hale was a retired Circuit Court Judge in the Fifth Judicial Circuit. He served as a senior judge until his death.
He lived in Ocala for most of his life besides his time at the University of Florida, the United States Marine Corp from 1969-71 and Stetson University College of Law. He obtained his Juris Doctor in 1973.
He served as a lawyer, public defender, county judge and circuit court judge, all in Marion County.
He was also a farmer, growing and making sugar cane each fall. He was proud to be the genealogist for the Stancil family, following in his father's footsteps. He was instrumental in tracking down distant relatives for a family tree that includes more than 4,000 names.
Hale was preceded in death by his parents and sister Georgeanne Stancil Schore. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Rebecca Faye Stancil; four daughters, Stephanie DellaVecchia (husband Matthew DellaVecchia), Karen Stancil (husband Ken Capps), Suzanne Stancil (husband John Svercek), Kathryn Riechert (husband Scott Whitten), and a son John Stancil (wife Jennifer Stancil) and 17 Grandchildren, Ashlyn DellaVecchia, Audrey DellaVecchia, Andrew DellaVecchia, Mason Champ, Ella Champ, Lily Champ, Tyler Capps, Jordan Capps, Miles Stevens, Grant Stevens, Everett Stevens, Nathan Stevens, Brooke Svercek, Grace Svercek, Corban Stancil, Caleb Stancil, and Alden Stancil. Other survivors include sister, Renn Hinton and brother Harold Stancil along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He spent time hunting, fishing, and reading.

Jesman "Jes" Arnold Hales, April 10, 2024
Jesman “Jes” Arnold Hales, husband of Betsy Jean Lane Hales and son of the late Cedric Jesmon Hales and Hilda Mae Stancil Hales Stover, died April 10, 2024, at his Prattville, Alabama, home surrounded by family.
His parents were longtime residents of Fremont, North Carolina, which is where Jes will be buried on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Hilda was born in Johnston County, North Carolina, on May 24, 1919.
Jes is survived by his sister Mary Anne Hales Weisiger (husband Lewis Weisiger); his wife Betsy; and three children, Jeffrey Arnold Hales (wife Carolyn Smith), Jessica Lynn Hales (husband Shawn Stinson), and Joseph Mark Hales (wife Ashley Lindner). He is the grandfather of Victoria “Ashley” Hales (husband Jordan Hamilton), Lauren Michelle Hales (husband Jace Boutwell) and Corey Smith.
He received a bachelor’s degree in history from East Carolina in 1963, an MPA in public administration from Auburn University in 1976 and a master’s degree in public administration from Air Command and Staff College in 1980.
Jes served in the Air Force as a pilot and Air-Crew Commander. He served in Southeast Asia (Vietnam) from 1967 to 1973 (7 TDY tours totaling 865 days). As a B-52 crew commander and instructor pilot, he flew 300 combat missions from bases in Guam, Okinawa and Thailand.
He was a faculty member and instructor at the Air Command and Staff College from 1976 to 1980. Jes retired from the military after 21 years in 1984 with numerous honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Following his military service, he worked as a realtor and broker for many years.
A graveside service with military honors was officiated by the Rev. Tim Gore at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery, 303 E North St., in Fremont, North Carolina. His parents are also buried in Elmwood Cemetery.
Kathleen “Kathy” Muliwai Yvonne Stancil Akau, April 20, 2024

Kathleen “Kathy” Muliwai Yvonne Akau of the Henry Branch, the only daughter of George Guy Stancil and Frances DeMello Peoples and widow of Joseph “Dodi” Akau Jr., died April 20, 2024, in Kailua, Hawaii, at the age of 79.
Kathy was born to George and Frances on Aug. 20, 1944, in Honolulu. Guy died Feb. 25, 1986, and Frances died Oct. 15, 2009.
She leaves behind a loving family, including her sons Dodi (Brooke) and Josiah, daughters Tita (Tracy) and Joelle (Kealii), along with her grandchildren Poni, Akilah, Alisha (Patrick), Kawailani (Tiffany), Kea Boy (Macey), Piehu (Harley), Alapaki, Alakea (Kaili), Jayce, Alanui, and great-grandchildren Ekahi, Leimomi, Judah, Kanelo, Kaulanakila.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary - Downtown Chapel, 20 South Kukui St. in Honolulu, HI 96813. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the same location.
